IN GENERAL: The 84º cobalt blue water is still at 19 miles, and there is a
very clean water from the beach to about 3 miles. Between the two has been a
daily guess as to where the green water was and/or clean water.
Santiago, on the panga “Gitana” found the clean water at 12 miles two days ago
for his client Kenneth Hill of Clinton, Utah. They tagged and released 3 sailfish, with one of them estimated at a huge 120 pounds. Santiago told me if he had not seen the fish take the trolled cut bait, from the way it fought he would have sworn it was a blue marlin.
The roosterfish action is remaining steady, with about 3 fish per day per boat being released.
Not much word on the tuna or dorado however.

The green water moved in last week pushing the blue out top the 25 mile mark. The SAILFISH activity slowed dramatically and only those boats making the long run had a shot at a billfish. French angler Mr. Nottin fishing aboard the Dos Hermanos 1 landed 3 SAILFISH and 12 SKIPJACK TUNA in two offshore days of fishing. Mr. Nottin also landed 35 YELLOWTAIL JACKS, 22 BOINITOS and 1 big 50 Lb ROOSTERFISH in 2 inshore days of fishing. Overall fishing activity was slow for last week. Calmer weather and a westerly wind should bring the blue water back closer to shore.

Another tropical storm passed through the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo area last week, closing the port for 2 days. Although not as intense as the previous storm, this one did manage to stir up the ocean enough to keep the fish scattered. Our captains are reporting good DORADO action around the weed lines and ever increasing numbers of SAILFISH as the schools of bait are thick all along the coast. After the storm the blue water moved to within 5 miles of the beach and the fishing conditions in November are expected to be good. Inshore, Captain Adolofo Espinosa reposts huge schools of YELLOWTAIL JACKS, but very few ROOSTERFISH. Not many boats have targeted the inshore fishery this month mainly because of the storms and difficult surf conditions.
There are still several good boats available for the upcoming third annual Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Total Tag & Release tournament November 16 - 20. Tournament interested angler are encouraged to contact our office for more details and boat availability for the upcoming tournament.

IN GENERAL: Conditions are improving this week, however the 84º cobalt blue
water is at 19 miles. We are still seeing about a two sailfish average per boat, but most of the boats are only fishing between 12 and 16 miles. The bait and the game fish are very abundant beyond the 19 mile mark.
Nineteen to 22 miles is still in the range of what qualifies as a 'normal day' of fishing. As more captains awaken to the fact the fish are there, the fish count will go up.
Another encouraging sign is the commercial pangas are working an area about 30 miles out. They are scoring on the yellowfin tuna, and some of them have hit the dock at over 160 pounds.
The dorado are still a hit or miss situation, depending on whether you can find some floating debris or not.
The hot bite on the roosterfish action has slowed down a bit, but this is mostly due to the discolored water caused by heavy runoff from the rivers. We have had no significant rain in the last few days, so the inshore waters should clear up soon.

The lingering effects of last week's storms coupled with little fishing activity made for a slim report last week from Ixtapa Zihuatanejo. The inshore fishing just about shut down from the heavy rain runoff which muddied up the inshore waters. Large swells also prevented anglers from probing the inshore waters. Captain Adolofo Espinosa did mange one nice roosterfish and a few Yellowtail Jacks in one day of inshore fishing. Offshore the blue water has been pushed to beyond the 10 mile mark. Captains reports raising a few Sailfish and Dorado per day but the action was scattered with most occurring around the floating debris. No Marlin or Tuna action was reported

IN GENERAL: Our 84º blue water is still at 10 miles, holding lots of bait and fish. The seas are very calm and the weather has been cooperative.
The roosterfish action has just been incredible, and we are even getting a blue marlin or two each week, in a month they are not supposed to be anywhere near here. Yet, we have so few people fishing, we are only averaging about 2 to 3 boats a day for the entire 'fleet'.
Other than the incredible roosterfish action (with nobody fishing for them), the sailfish are holding steady at 1 to 2 fish a day per boat. John Dickerson, from San Antonio, fished with Adolpho, on the panga “Dos Hermanos” for one day. They raised three sailfish fish, caught and released two.

Extremely light fishing pressure was reported in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo last week. September is normally a very rainy time but this year and last week as no exception, the weather has been unusually calm and dry. Sea conditions were favorable. Captain Adolofo Espinosa reported lots of Dorado and Sailfish close to shore along with two Big Blue Marlin. The inshore fishing continues to be red hot with big schools of ROOSTERFISH and YELLOWTAIL JACKS being found all along the coast. The Blue water is within 1 miles of shore and there continues to be ample schools of bait fish. Barring any unforeseen weather event, this year Ixtaap Zihuatanejo Total Tag & Release Tournament promises to be action packed as it was two years ago when 4 boats landed and released 71 Billfish in three days of fishing. Good boats are still available and interested anglers are encouraged to call or email our office for details, registration and hotel availability.

The Ixtapa Zihuatanejo area received its first real storm of the season last week which closed the port for three days. On the other days, very light fishing activity was reported. Captain Adolofo Espinosa did manage one 245 LB blue Marlin for his only offshore outing. The fish was hooked on a spinning rod with 50 Lb test Power Pro and the fight lasted well over 2 Hours. Captain Adolofo also reported the arrival of good numbers of DORADO and a generous supply of SAILFISH. Inshore the weather prevented any attempts at ROOSTERFISH or JACKS.

Sat., Sept. 27, 2003 Report covers the period Sat.-Fri. (9/19 - 9/26)
IN GENERAL: The 84º blue water is about 10 miles off the beach. Each boat is
averaging about 1 to 2 sailfish a day. There has been an abundance of bait this year and, even though the blue marlin prefer the cooler 78º winter temperatures, they have been sticking around.
Ernesto Perez, from Mexico City, fished with Luis Marcial on the panga “Gringo
Loco” for two days this week. On the first day, they checked out the roosterfish action in the surf line to see if the outstanding bite was still holding up. The rains last week had limited the visibility, but they found the water had cleaned up a little. They caught 10 roosters averaging about 30- to 35-pounds.
The second day they fished the blue water, catching an approximate 225-pound
blue marlin off one of the current lines holding debris washed out of the rivers.
A few dorado are starting to show, and we are hoping we will get a few more rains and a little more substance to the current lines.

Please note the date. We are only providing weekly (not twice a week) reports for this area.
Saturday, September 20, 2003, Report covers the period Sat.-Fri. (9/13 - 9/20)
IN GENERAL: We have had 'good news-bad news' these last three days. The bad news is we have had wind and about 6 inches of rain in the last 48 hours. Conditions have been just too miserable to fish, because of the limited visibility caused from all the silt and debris being washed out of the rivers. This will also shut down (for about a week) our excellent action for roosterfish and jack crevalle in the surf line.
The good news is there have been tons of trees, plants, coconuts, etc. being washed out of the rivers making for some incredible bait holding current lines. In the next few days, as ocean conditions stabilize, the dorado, sailfish, and school-sized yellowfin tuna should be thick on these floating hotels.
